Representative Finney is currently serving her seventh term in the Kansas House of Representatives. She is a native Wichitan and the only child of Julia Lott-Martin. Finney grew up in Wichita where she learned the value of hard work, the importance of positive preparation through education, and persistent resilience to overcome injustice.
She is married to Jerrold Finney and they have three sons and seven grandchildren. She obtained her Bachelor of Business degree from Wichita State University and her Master of Business degree from Friends University. Prior to be elected, she served as the Vice Chair of the Sedgwick Count Democrat Party, volunteered on many political campaigns, and she was elected several times as a precinct committee woman.
During her legislative career, Finney has fought passionately for her district and those whose voices are too often not heard. She believes our government should be more responsive to the needs of its most marginalized citizens.
Some of Rep. Finney's legislative priorities include making health care more accessible and affordable, investing in quality education, protecting Kansas families and workers, and a fairer criminal justice system for everyone. She has lobbied for several different major legislative reforms in Kansas including Medicaid Expansion, criminal justice reform, medical marijuana, civil asset forfeitures reform, and electric utility oversight.
